What was destroyed in the crash?

The plane may have look pretty mangled but the damage were not that great.
I had to boil the nose of the Easystar and glue her up again, no biggie.
Battery is fine (got to love A123).
All servos survived and no gears were broken.
OSD and the eLogger are both fine.
Camera works fine but has gotten a few battle scars.
The 300mW 1.3GHz transmitter on the other hand seems to have sustained heavy damage and the range has been reduced to practically nothing.
I have tried replacing the SMA-connector with no results...
I think I’ll have to order a new one.

Other that the EZ-Pod was damaged but nothing unfixable.
I’ll keep you posted.

I'm in the paper

I made the first page:

I do truly look like the king of geekeness.

Now I’m the laughingstock of the town for a while...

I've got it back!!!

Wooohooo!

Oh I'm so happy!

After putting up the posters in the local grocery stores I hoped so bad that the phone would ring...

And after a while it did!

The woman on the line said that she and her fellow workers were just about to start there 2 o'clock meeting when they heard a thump outside.

Curiously they went outside to see what had happend and there on the sidewalk surrounded by people, laid my easystar.
It had struck the side of the stone building and fallen down on the sidewalk.

The building it had struck was the
City Hall!!!

The woman had taken it inside to keep it safe.
Later that day the woman had gone shopping groceries at the grocery store and by shance glanced at the postingboard on the way out, and she spotted my poster.

The first question I asked was; did it hit someone?
My second question was; was there any damage to the building?

And she laughed and said; Of course not!

Oh what a relief!

So the next day I went to the city hall to pick the plane up.
They were verry nice and asked alot of the standard questions like;
how far does it go, how high does it go, how fast, how long and so on.
And we had some coffie and cineman buns that I had brought with me.

Later that day the locoal newspaper called me and wanted to do an article on RC flying and the crash.
They just left 10 mintes ago, and by friday the article will be publiched.

Oh I'm so glad that no one got hurt by my stupidity!
I made alot of mistakes and I have learned a valuble lesson or three.

... and the plane?

The day I lost my FPV Easystar

My plane is gone and i cant find it!

I was my first flight with my new Eagletree OSD.
I saw that the clouds were pretty low and not to thick so I did something stupid;
I flew above the clouds without a GPS.
It was pretty windy but I didn’t notice it while flying so high. I thought that I was closer than I was.
I fly with A123 and usually get 2100mAh out of them. But I had forgot that I had used some up configuring the OSD.

I descended to late and found myself out at sea!

I panicked and tried to desperately get back to land when the battery went flat...

Klick here to jump to the place when stuff starts to happen

We searched for hours but could not find it.

Maybe it’s out at sea.

I’ll put up some flyers to see if someone has seen it.

Wow this day sucks...

Here is a link to the thread on RCGroups if you want to discuss it

Hotwire cutting

Brian at RCFlightcast wanted to see what speed I used when cutting out my wing cores so I made him a short youtube video

Night flight AitT Done and flown

Yep your read right! The AitT V.2 is a Night Flyer!
And more, it flies great!
The difference is easily noticeable compared to the old AitT.

I have also changed the prop to a 4,75*4,75, changed the servos to a pair of Multiplex Nano-S and changed to a 25-35C battery.

This is not a model you fly with your mind on the dinner and I like that.
Unlimited vertical is nice too.

The Glowire that I use on the front is from a PC-modders kit and the top and bottom ones are from hobbycity.

I personally have no trouble with orientation flying at night, in fact I sometimes find it easier that flying at day.

Fooling around with the OSD

I rely like Eagletree’s stuff!
You can change almost everything to whatever you want.
This is extremely appealing to me as I can chose what I want to display and where.

Since I don’t have the GPS expender yet I chose to display the mAh used in the top left corner, the battery voltage in the top right corner and underneath that the amp draw.

I found that this layout worked out best for me.
I don’t like to have anything in the bottom of the screen since that is the part of the screen that is most interesting.

You’ll have to see for your self in the next video.

Eagletree OSD

Today my Eagletree OSD Expander arrived!

DSC_0255

It looks nice and comes with a very nice manual.

Time to fool around with it a bit before I mount it in the plane.

AitT V.2

My old AitT has now retired after a work related accident involving the ground.

This is going to be its successor:

dsc_0002
This one is made of extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) witch is a much stiffer foam.

dsc_0020
This time its carbon fiber all the way.

dsc_0005

dsc_0006

dsc_0007
Even the winglets get some carbon fiber.

More to come as usual.

FPV Maiden!

Woho! A successful maiden!

Pushed the range a bit to about 3km without a problem with either the RC or video connection.
I also tried aiming the RC TX away from the airplane to see how wide the beam with was, and it was surprisingly wide

It was verry cold after 15 minutes in the wind at -9°C, as you can se on the landing

Non FPV maiden

I maidened it without the FPV setup to trim it out and test the gyro. (It makes no sense in crashing the FPV setup when not flying FPV)
Everything went fine and it didn't need a single klick of trim.
If flew awsome!
My hands could not take the cold for verry long so the first flight were about 4 minutes.

Now I can do the FPV maiden!
