I’m planning a week-long road trip for sightseeing with other people driving. I’d like to be able to fly and take footage in different locations along the way and there’s no way I will be bringing enough batteries. Everyone says you should not charge the battery in the car… Is there a safe way to do that, considering the fact that it’s not time-critical and I can monitor it at all times? I have never had a battery even go warm while charging at 1C, but I always charge in a lipo bag anyway. I’m happy to avoid charging batteries that have been crashed while traveling. Any suggestions? Any warnings? Thanks!

Do you have a spare 12v vehicle battery laying around? Even though this might be considered irresponsible (I have no idea) I’d just hook up a 12v charger (turnigy accucell or something) to the battery with the alligator clips it comes with. That’s how I charge all the time, but sadly I haven’t gone on any trips with that setup.
Another option is if you can get a 12v plug (the kind in a car) that has contacts on the end, then you could use your car’s 12v system to power the charger, etc.
As for the 12v battery I know you can get contained ones specifically for this kind of thing. It’s nice to charge off a big separate battery, as you have a reliable power source that won’t be interrupted.
You know there’s reasons to be cautious with LiPos, but you’d probably be fine charging in the car, there’s just the risk if the LiPo does burn up you’d have to pull off, etc. which could pose to be a problem. As that (hopefully) won’t happen, I don’t see why not go ahead.
I actually don’t have any experience on the subject so this is what I would do, but someone else might have actual experience, so I’ll be watching this thread.

Actually it was in the cord rather than in the power system on our sailboat, which was interesting. It’s only 12v though so it’s not like it will shock you.
