Couldn’t wait to start cutting foam… One A2 sheet of 5mm foam board is actually enough to cut the pieces needed for the Pun Jet – if layed out right 🙂 The foam is slightly thicker than the foam they use on flight test (3/16″?!?) so the bends are off. Hope I can correct these without compromising the integrity of the build. Will probably be gluing it together tomorrow, and then just wait for the lipos to arrive… 119g 1300mAh 3S are apparently too heavy for the Pun Jet so I ordered some 72g 850mAh instead. Still debating wether to use my 24g Multistar Elite 2204 2300Kv badly balanced motor, or wait for the 15g ZMR 1804 2400Kv. I realized I have quite a lot of spares piling up 🙂
18 May, 2015 at 15:37 #14575danno242000Participantsaw your video, did you get it in the air or gave up ?
20 May, 2015 at 01:05 #14735TerjeModeratorI gave up for now. Reworking the design of the Pun Jet to convert it into a fun foam fighter 🙂
20 May, 2015 at 11:01 #14756cenkoParticipanthave you weighed your PunJet? The “official” FT specs are: weight (w/o battery) 4.1 oz (166 g).
20 May, 2015 at 11:12 #14758TerjeModeratorYes, my Pun Jet weighs 185g (27g motor to blame?). 305 with a 1300mAh 3S lipo. Will rebuild something similar with a 850mAh lipo and 15g motor.
20 May, 2015 at 11:26 #14762cenkoParticipantthats not much, i would have guessed it to be more, considering the weight of the Foambord. Still don’t know why you get all this torque rolling. I assume you checked the orientation of the prop, numbers facing to the front. Otherwise the airflow generated over the wing and stabelizers is often not enough to actually stabelize the craft.
20 May, 2015 at 11:50 #14764TerjeModeratorWhen I changed the prop from 6×4.5 to 5×4 it was less prone to roll, but still unflyable. I’m working on a heavily modified version of the Pun Jet, the MP Fun Foam Fighter 🙂
1/2 scale mock-up on picture. Wing span: 500mm. Foam weight: 76g. Weight for minimum configuration: 220g. Can be cut from one sheet of A2 foam board 🙂
– No idea if it can fly!

20 May, 2015 at 14:26 #14772TerjeModeratorPart of the problem with building foamies from Flitetest otherwise great build plans is that the foamboard in the US is 20″x30″x3/16″. That translates to: 762x508x4.76mm The equivalent in Europe is 700x500x5mm. Not a problem until you make the B folds etc. Stuff simply doesn’t fit.
21 May, 2015 at 10:43 #14897cenkoParticipantthe fun foam fighter looks nice. Keep us updated how it works out. My next FT plane will be a TinyTrainer (4 channel) but Depron-Tape-style. If only the day had some more hours. Or if only i spent less time in forums 😉
21 May, 2015 at 11:21 #14903TerjeModeratorIt took me around 2 hours to build the full size version. Skipping *one* talkshow on TV should free up enough time to build it 😉
I did go out and bought some tools that makes it really quick to build foamies 🙂
Z bending tool
Bevel cutting tool🙂
29 May, 2015 at 08:17 #15384TerjeModeratorFinally managed to put together some video 🙂
29 May, 2015 at 08:31 #15387Agent CALParticipantI’ll send over foam board for $10 a sheet plus shipping… Heh heh…
Just saying.
XD
29 May, 2015 at 10:43 #15392TerjeModeratorFound some high quality board at $6, so no thanks! 🙂
31 May, 2015 at 16:21 #15494cenkoParticipanthej terje, this looks nice, flies nice. How long are your flight times with this setup? BTW why did you use the flightcontroler? To increase stability in windy conditions or just for the fun of trying out the stabilsation?
31 May, 2015 at 16:27 #15496TerjeModerator850mAh 3S will last about 10 minutes. I use the flight controller, because I am a bad pilot 🙂
It would benefit greatly from a lifting wing profile and maybe two motors on the wing edge instead 😉
