what about a simple kf step? KFm-2? Haven’t ever used one myself but seems to be the simplest way of generating more lift
14 January, 2016 at 11:04 #24617JesperParticipantHave you seen that Hobbyking starte to sell XPS light weight foam board from the EU store.
Best value is there, but they have bigger formats.
Aero-modelling Foam Board 3mm x 500mm x 700mm @ 13.2$ for 20pcs
Aero-modelling Foam Board 5mm x 500mm x 700mm @ 13.5$ for 20pcsGreat news for scratch building!!

160pcs of 500mm x 700mm for 116,95$ That is pretty darn great!14 January, 2016 at 11:25 #24619TerjeModeratorToo bad I can’t squeeze a CO2 laser cutter into a 60m2 apartment – Why can’t I have it all?!? ๐
14 January, 2016 at 11:36 #24620JesperParticipantNada you dont need it, just do it by hand, it will enhance the scratch building feeling ๐
On the other hand i remember you where building a large 3d printer. You can just make a snapon laser module for it, whey cut through foam like Rudy Frederiksen through teenage girls (very inappropriate intern Danish joke).
23 January, 2016 at 17:37 #25052TerjeModerator@jesperjuul I just ordered some of the 5x500x700mm foam from hobbyking (along some Turnigyโข MX-95E Digital Micro Servos and EMAX ES9051 servos off eBay that won’t arrive till spring). I will test out how well it works with the Flitetest designs (the FT Arrow).
23 January, 2016 at 20:37 #25053JesperParticipant@dkdarkness Funny thing, i ordered the hobbyking foam as well today, but my order got a bit out of hand. Those Dominator HD2 was screaming for a new home. ๐
Iยดm not an servo-aficionado like you Terje so i will be sticking to good olยด HXT500 and 900 for my scratch builds. so god damn cheap and great.
I think we might have to cover the foam with something to get the same strength as the ftfoam? – Packaging Tape should do the job.
23 January, 2016 at 20:55 #25054TerjeModeratorWell… Those Dominator V3’s needed a home too! (I like the 16:9 ratio) Still waiting for the Raceband receiver though.
I have done some builds with 6mm Depron with packaging tape on one side, and it works pretty well (thanks to @David for the tip). You can even buy yellow or blue or what ever color you want ๐ I’ve even experimented with covering film but you have to be very careful not to melt the Depron.
I think I’ll start out with some 9g Tower Pro servos I have in stock and an retired Multistar Elite 2204 2300Kv running what ever ESC with BEC I can find in my box ๐ D4R-II receiver running PWM and the ESC setup for beeping when idle for 2 minutes (poor mans lost model alarm). I found a bunch of 12v board cameras in one of my boxes (darn eBay, press to buy and then forget you did it). All in all it is going to be a quite inexpensive build I think. Considering a micro minimOSD (that I have left over from another build) for voltage metering (running 3S 850mAh lipo). – That Pun Jet didn’t die in vain!
23 January, 2016 at 21:48 #25056JesperParticipantHaha damn you FatShark! ๐ I was actually prone to go with the Dom V3 because of the aspect ration, but i was really bummed out of the FOV. I have the Dom v2 but i always felt that they could need a bit more FOV to really get immersive. How are the V3 IRL?
I bought a complete “hanger” from a guy how got stressed out from having to much RC projects (Like thats possible) ๐ so now i have piles of gear, and the best i could come up with was to build my self out of it. ๐
For the FTarrow im planing on using a Multistar 2206 2150v “baby beast” with a 6×4,5 this will be plenty fun.
I also got a lot of coverfilm from that guy, so i was also thinking about trying it on the foam, but as you say its probably a lot of trouble with the heat, and the tape usually work great so i will save it for when i retire and have nothing to do, but building balsa planes. ๐
Lets share foam more experiences.
15 March, 2017 at 14:21 #36882zootallureParticipantLooks like a dead thread but just thought i mention it here, Flite Test now have European retailers like Graupner (their sponsor i think) and Conrad selling the FT kits and also foamboard packs.
Check Graupner.de or conrad.nl and search for Flite Test. Also few other RC shops seem to have the kits but none have the Sea Duck at the moment ๐I’ve recently built the fab Sea Duck from speed build kit, had tons of fun flying off the water but now that i’ve crashed it, i was looking for other retailers of either FT foam board or kit because the kit is on back order (6 weeks) at both.
Found retailer in Austria but shipping too expensive. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in Sweden also by now. Let me know. thnx
