    Hello RC explorers,

Overall I’ve been very happy with Aurora 9 with my V4.0ish copter, but the range is a pain and I’m wondering how to solve it.

This has been the reason for my past two crashes and frankly it doesn’t seem to me that I’m all that far out when the copter just flips into an unintended barrel roll and falls out of the sky.

I run fairly standard immersionRC 5.8G FPV gear (600mW tx from the copter) and I’m running out of control range well inside the video transmission range of this gear.

    I welcome any suggestions.

    Best,

    Hi Anthony,

My first thought is that you don’t have your R/C antennas mounted optimally (“Optima”-lly? :)). Make sure that the receiver antenna(s) are mounted vertically (see the Tricopter v3 build video) and that your transmitter antenna is pointed straight up (like in this photo).

If that doesn’t help, you can do this mod and have the ability to run higher-gain transmitter antennas. However, this mod takes a fair amount of soldering skills, will void your warranty, and if done improperly can ruin your radio. I would highly suggest doing everything you can to increase range before doing it.

    What receiver are you running?

Hmmmm… It probably got filtered by some strict spam filter settings. I have now “un-spammed” it;-)
