Hi I was wondering if someone would be so kind to help me understand the basics and the lingo of drone flying I’m a complete newbie. I have been building and flying rc helicopters for a few years now but drones are so much different compared to what I’m used to. I am thinking of buying a baby tri but would like to no a bit more and how to get this thing set up on the computer I feel I will be good at the soldering as done plenty of it on my rc heli builds but set up and knowing the componets and what they do no idea so all the help wood be very appreciated thanks guy.

James, you landed in a good spot for the tricopters variant of multirotors, or drones in the popular parlance.

I found a few good spots. Google Joshua Bardwell and painless 360 for starters. Both have a wide range of instructional videos and tips wllell organised in themes, that will help you get started. And my favourite: flitetest.

Be prepared though to be overwhelmed by the enormous choice of equipment/components available and by the rate of change. In hardware and software.

I recommend picking a kit where everything is pre-selected to limit the decisions required and build the first one this way. Once you have this flying your will either be hooked or ready to move on to a next challenge …

Think also on the purpose: aerial photography/cinematography, racing, free-style? This will determine some of your choices.

    Enjoy! And keep us posted.

Hi, you’re on a good path. FPV Freestyle is a blast and the Baby tricopter is awesome. I have a baby tricopter and a quadcopter for FPV, and I prefer to fly the tricopter. I started off with a ready to fly quadcopter, so I didn’t have to learn about all the components and how they work with each other, just learn how to fly. Through that, I picked up some basics on the components. Then I received the baby tricopter kit as a gift. As mentioned before, the good thing about a kit is you don’t have to decide which components to use and how they interact with each other. You can just follow the guide on how to assemble it, one step at a time. You’ll learn a lot this way, but always feel like there is yet more to learn.

I recommend buying the baby tricopter kit and just jumping in. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks madpoet the tri does look awesome been doing loads of research last night on what all the components do and how they work together very interesting but that was just on normal quad i assume it slightly different on a tri component and set up wise.I feel I could build this tri but there is not much on how to get this setup on the computer I think this is were I will get stuck if anyone could give me some idea on what software is used and how to set it up that would be a big help thanks for your help guys
