This is a very simple question, but I just wanted to know if you can use a carbon fiber tube to mount the antenna. In the video David didn’t say what he used but I was going to use a carbon fiber tube and just wanted to know if the carbon fiber would effect it being up against it?

i doubt it but carbon fiber is conductive id do some tests first because it could contact the receiver antenna and make the antenna “longer” therefore reducing the range because all channels have an optimized length and going any longer reduces the range you get.

I just suggest doing a range test first.

What does anybody else use? Fiberglass?

My understanding is that carbon fiber blocks antenna signals so I wouldn’t recommend you use a carbon tube even if the antenna wire is mounted to the outside of it. Plastic or fiberglass would be better in my opinion.

Don’t use carbon, use fiberglass or plastic of some kind.
Carbon will work but will reduce your range

I use a standard ABS R/C bowden cable with the inner piano wire removed. Works great and doesn’t break on impact 🙂

Cable tie and shrink tubing over that once you fit your antenna

Thanks guys I’ll try with the bowden wire.

I was going to use the bowden wire, but it’s kinda heavy and I for got I have a nice thin fiberglass rod from an old kite that will work just perfect.

Ok, my Ø3mm 20cm long inner and outer ABS bowden tube weighs 1.5g?

Anybody got a recommendation for placement of a Spektrum AR8000 receiver and its goofy little remote receiver on the tricopter? The harness that connects the two is not very long, so it seems like my options are limited. Trying to figure out a placement that will provide decent reception at all angles.

    Hi Plano Chad,

I use the AR6200, with satellite. I placed the main receiver on the top plate in the front, in front of the flight controller.
The satellite I placed on the back boom, with the antennas pointing vertical. When I get home I may take a picture if necessary. I think this is as good as it will get. You can also put the satellite underneath the battery tray.

Terje, did you remove the inner metal support, because if you did that is why mine was so heavy. It weighed 12g now it weighs less then a gram. Mine is 5mm though so I might still us the fiberglass which is 2mm. Just don’t want to drill a bigger hole in the beautiful frame.

Thanks Robert. That sounds like a good plan as long as my connector cable is long enough to reach the back boom. Also, my main receiver only has one antenna poking out. I wonder if I should face it left, right, or forward. Any suggestions?

This is how I have wired mine. In a few weeks I will wire the complete frame again to make it neater and better protect the wires.
