I already asked this in the product review section before I remembered David opened a forum section, so apologies for the redundancy, but here goes:

I’m in the process of building the recommended 4S setup with the 900 kV NTM 28-30S motors and 9x5E Multistar props. This is my first multicopter and what confuses me is the prop installation. The props without any of the included adapters is way too loose, with the larger adapter it is still somewhat loose and the smaller one doesn’t fit.
    1) Are the props supposed to fit nice and tight over the prop mount and if no, how much tolerance should there roughly be between the shaft diameter and the prop adapter inner diameter?
    2) If there is supposed to be some tolerance between the two diameters then how do you guarantee the prop is centered and doesn’t produce vibrations?
I don’t have a caliper to get measures but by highly accurate eyballing I’d say the difference is somewhere around a millimeter. So do I need to get more prop adapters or maybe drill the too small ones to be a snug fit?

The adapters should fit snugly. I screw them down with the prop adapter nut, but often have to pry the adapter ring off the shaft with pliers afterwards. I’ve started to predrill my adapters by first securing them with CA to the prop, then drilling them to perfectly match the motor shafts.

Get the 9-5 hq props from ready to fly quads. They come with 3 4 5 and 6 mm spacers.

It shouldn’t be a gap at all. The smaller ones should fit as Terje stated. Just screw them down. You don’t have to take the adapter off if you use the same kind of propellers all the time. If you change brand or size, it could be a good idea.

Got the adapters rammed down, I just had to quite a lot of force and I was initially a bit hesitant to do so, but no visually identifiable damage was done so I’m happy for now.
This project seems to be a doom for my tools, already ruined one tool with interchangeable heads when tightening the carbon rods and now blatantly abused a hex tool to apply more force on the prop spinner to drive the adapter rings down the shaft 🙂 But I don’t care, I just want this beast to fly even if HobbyKing is doing their best to delay me and sitting on my order waiting for the charger, everything else is ok. But one day, I promise you, one day…
