Hey Guys!
Are there any people here that have a gimbal on there tricopter?
or should i try harder when making some shoots. And if you have a gimbal on it what are te spec of it?!
26 January, 2016 at 17:06 #25161JarnoParticipantHi, I’m building one for V3… using Terje’s and someone others parts for 2 axis Xiaomi Yi gimbal. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:772118 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:543822
Only thing is now to order motors. 🙂
26 January, 2016 at 18:10 #25166stefanParticipantBut is it worth it!?
Will it still fly well and do I need some bigger motors!?26 January, 2016 at 20:59 #25180JarnoParticipantI’m rebuilding my V3 now, and will be using emax 2216 810kv motors with 10×45 props. It will be heavy but calculations say it will fly 🙂 maybe 🙂
Use http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.php and check motorpixie videos and stuff.27 January, 2016 at 20:24 #25225SiclairParticipantMy personal opinion is that gimbals do not belong on a tricopter. Not because they won’t do the job but because:
1. The tricopter has much less lift power compared to a quad, hex or octacopter. Once you start adding gimbal, gps and current sensors your flight time will be much less.
2. The tricopters flight characteristics is what makes it so enjoyable to fly. The banking looks terrific in the air and you get the feel of how it would be to fly it if you sat in it.
3. Once you add the gimbal you wont have any idea how the tricopter is tilted in the air. Unless you install a second camera. Thus adding even more weight.
4. Little far stretched, but if the gimbal goes hay wire you won’t have any chance of landing unless you have RTL.
5. Nr.2 is the most valid point for me.
See my clip below.
28 January, 2016 at 21:47 #25242stefanParticipantWell you have a really good point there. I do really like the way I fly’s. But I wanted to get 2836- 800kv motors the are really powerful. So I was hoping that would affect the way it fly’s to much.
30 January, 2016 at 11:23 #25280papadkostasParticipantWhat if someone wants a gimbal for stable video capture? In my case I have not stable video and I was thinking taking a gimbal when I want to record the flight.
I was thinking about a custom gimbal mount that will be fitted where the front spacer is. What so you think?
I hope Terje will see this 😀30 January, 2016 at 11:58 #25281TerjeModeratorWell I think I already designed a gimbal back in 2014 🙂
On my to-do list is a lighter gimbal for the RunCam 2, but that is way out in the future…
30 January, 2016 at 12:41 #25285papadkostasParticipantYea, i’ve seen that Terje, but i though mounting the whole thing where the front spacer is would be better. 🙂
This would make it easy to remove it fast by removing just 2 screws.
But still i have to say you’ve done really good work!!31 January, 2016 at 17:47 #25483stefanParticipantwell it is better to have a gimbal on the battery mount, that is dampened.
But i will have try, first i well get some good motors, and new frame plates, they broke in a crash 🙁
31 January, 2016 at 18:16 #25485papadkostasParticipantwell, i don’t think a gimbal needs vibration damping so much.
We have to try. 😀31 January, 2016 at 18:19 #25487TerjeModeratorOh, a gimbal needs vibration dampening 🙂
You will get high frequency jitter and jello without dampening. That what those rubber balls on all the Phantom’s are 🙂
31 January, 2016 at 18:46 #25489stefanParticipantWell maybe you can get away it you have some good motors and goog balanced props. But than still it would be very hard to not have any jello and al that.
And the battery tray has some really good dampening in it so it is a good basic to work of.
3 February, 2016 at 05:30 #25588wynnsquadParticipantThis might be really far out there and I haven’t seen anyone try it, but what if you mounted the stock vibration dampening tray on top of the tricopter frame instead of underneath? Then you could “hang” the gimbal from it. It seems like many gimbals mount in a hanging configuration, and then you could also get the vibration dampening that you’re after.
Probably a crazy idea but I’d like to see someone try it
