    Hello,

    I’d like to try the new version on my Mini Tricopter (latest electronics package and integrated FC).

    Are instructions posted anywhere or maybe a least a dump of the configuration for a tricopter like mine?

    Thx,

    Larry

    Hello,

    Seconding Bassmaniac’s request…

    I’m guessing that the RCEXPLORER3 image is the right one for The “F3FC” integrated-into-the-frame FC from the RCExplorer store?

    I have a MiniTricopter with the latest electronics. Hoping someone has upgraded and tuned theirs and can share their settings.

    If so, I’d sure appreciate if you can share a dump of your settings.

    Thanks,

    Excellent. There will always be stuff on the drawing board. I’m looking forward to the release too! 🙂

    @fly4props Thanks for that clarification.

    I am not a very experienced pilot. So I guess I’ll just stick to triflight for now.

    However, I am concerned about the fact that Cleanflight is becoming obsolete and triflight’s dependency on it. I wonder what the chances are for the “triflight goodness” to be merged into betaflight. My intuition tells me not to hold my breath.

    Thx,

    This must be a stupid question given what you guys seem to be talking about. But what’s up with this talk of betaflight? We don’t have to use triflight any more to get the special sauce?

    I guess that might mean that the triflight enhancements have been merged into betaflight?

    From what I’ve heard, support for Dshot is also dependent on the flight controller hardware to some extent. Apparently the mapping between DMA channels and pins matters.

    Do we know yet whether the RCExplorer F3FC flight controller will support DShot if/when it is supported in Triflight?

    Thanks,

    Hello Everyone,

    I have a news flash for anyone trying to use the Spektrum 4649t on their tricopters.

    Thanks to Miguel Alvarez from the Spektrum development team who answered my PM on RCGroups to get us this info.

    The most important tidbit is that the 4649t requires 5v! The 4648 ran on 3.3v. That’s bad news for me because it means I need to take my tricopter apart to change the solder jumper that selects the voltage for uart1.

    Here is the rest of the info that Miguel gave me:

    ==========
    It seems there’s a lot of confusion about what this receiver works with. I will summarize it into a few bullets which should help you.

    -The 4649T will work with any flight controller that supports the 4648. The receiver serial data output is exactly the same on this one as in the 4648.
    -Just because the “Serial Telemetry Protocol” isn’t supported by the FC doesn’t mean that you get absolutely no telemetry data. The 4649T is capable of providing FP voltage, Flight log, and RSSI data on its own. This data doesnt have to be provided by the FC.
    -The serial telemetry protocol simply consists of a reply message with telemetry data after every receiver packet to the flight controller. The 4649T will work regardless of whether this message is received or not.

    So to answer your question in short. You could say that the receiver is half supported by cleanflight. You just wont be able to have telemetry data provided from the flight controller to the receiver until that “half” of the protocol is added. It will still work as a receiver with basic telemetry though. Some people have miss interpreted the lack of support for the telemetry protocol on the FC to mean that the receiver is just a more expensive 4648, but thats simply not true. You will still get the basic telemetry metrics I listed above.
    ==========

    So, the bottom lines are:
    1) The 4649t should work for controlling the tricopter as long as it is provided 5v power.
    2) We will get some telemetry returned to the transmitter that we weren’t getting with the 4648.
    3) We will not get any other telemetry (like current) until cleanflight and subsequently triflight supoort it.

    I’ve been following the rcgroups discussion on the 4649t receiver and the current status as I understand it is that the only FC that supports the new protocol implemented in this receiver is the raceflight FC.

    Furthermore, it is reported that the Spektrum license of the protocol is incompatible with betaflight’s open source license and so there will be no support for it in betaflight until that is resolved (if ever).

    I am not clear on whether the protocol difference impacts both control and telemetry or just telemetry. However, it seems like the experiences related here indicate it impacts both.

    So, it seems like for now the 4649t is not much more than a tiny paperweight.

    I will report back here if I get new information. Please correct me if I’ve gotten any of this wrong. It’s certainly possible since I’ve been trying to piece the whole story together from many small snippets.

    Hello,

    On the F3FC there are some pads you need to bridge (connect) to configure the voltage for UART1. David describes them in detail in one of the videos (the F3FC one, I think). Spectrum receivers need 3.3v. If you don’t bridge either of the pairs of pads, you will get no voltage (I think). If you bridge the wrong pair of pads you will get 5v which may fry your receiver.

    I bridged the 3.3v pair of pads and connected my 4648 receiver the same way you described in your original post and it worked for me. You do NOT need the main battery installed to use the configurator and verify correct operation of the receiver. The receiver and flight controller is powered by the usb port when you have it connected to a computer. You do have to properly configure uart1 in the cleanflight configurator.

    I have a 4649T, but haven’t tried to install it yet. From reading some stuff on the web, I’m afraid that it will not work with the version of cleanflight that Triflight is currently based on.

    I currently have a 4648 receiver installed in my Minitricopter and it works fine. I have a 4649t waiting to be installed. Are you saying the 4649t is not getting any power? How did you configure the F3FC power options? There are 2 solderable jumpers. Maybe you didn’t add those jumpers?

    Video captured from Prosight system during test flight. No fancy flying, but it is representative of what the pro sight FPV looks like.

    Follow-up:

    I improved the way the Spektrum receiver/antennas and Prosight transmitter/antennas are installed.
