I’ve just rebuilt my mini a couple weeks ago. I used the special heat sinking and waterproof compound to waterproof high voltage electronics and plastic coating on the low voltage parts. Flew into the snow a couple times, no issues whatsoever.

@David doesn’t reply here too often, so I’ll tell you what I know.
Here are all triflight releases, feel free to test if you can run GPS on any of these.
I believe @lkaino will be the best person to ask, not @David, as he was the author of most of the changes for triflight.

OSD works well on the same port with USB, CF configurator and MWOSD use the same protocol, so you don’t need to change any settings. If you plug in both USB and a flight battery, you’ll need to disconnect the OSD. This is useful if you need the second UART for something else, that doesn’t play nicely with USB, for example blackbox or serial rx.

There was a bug in BLHeli’s OneShot125, which was fixed a few versions ago. You can test first with the triflight. If it doesn’t work, you need to update the firmware to use OneShot, which helps a lot on the mini.

Pin headers are designed to be solid enough to avoid accidental cross-connection, so if you just solder some pin-headers and don’t bend these in the process, you should be fine.

I’d really advise to go with Naze32 instead of KK2, as there’s no new development on KK2 and most of new developers are adding features and stability to Naze32. I’ve re-built my mini recently to withstand some moisture and had a couple very fun and stable flights today.

If you put a zip-tie instead of the screw in front of the arm, you will break more zip-ties and less arms. But give it a bit more wire to avoid ripping off the pads from PDB when the arms fold forward.

@David, next time you design a board, make the copper pads slightly larger than a space in the solder mask, so that the solder mask could keep the sides attached. (: I’ve never seen so many ripped off pads as in this thing before.

Well, both mini and full versions have all the same capabilities, as the flight controller is the same. You can definitely add a barometer and/or compass+gps to either one to hold altitude and/or position respectively.

First ESCs were from a defective batch. And yes, there are better ESCs on the market now.

If you want slower, more stable video, or sharp still pictures, get V3.5, if you want fast and crash-proof thing, that can still shoot some quality video, go for a mini.

I would definitely suggest going for a mini if you’re new to the hobby. There are simply more places where you can fly with it and it’s easier to carry and less scary. And don’t worry about it too much, you’ll definitely have both in the end, if you like the hobby. (:
