    UPDATE

Yesterday is spend the day soldering and programming another MinimOSD Micro, after sacrificing the other one in the sake of research hehehe. Well this one came dead from the Chintory, it only displays vvvvv’s even after uploading fonts. So ordered a Minimosd normal version this time not the micro. One thing there is more support for the normal and it’s fairly small. There is still a lot of room left in Mini Tri canopy. I have a brOSD left but I want to save that one for another stand alone naze32 project in the future.

Below you can see the pins I soldered during the weekend in order directly connect the MiminOSD Micro (which resulted in a TOTAL failure) But no worries there is a 3A 5V/6V BEC connected, powering a MinimOSD Micro (the DOA one).
On the other picture you can admire my GPS still working and even getting a lock indoors. Couldn’t get it display those nice coordinates on the FPV goggles though.

    QUICK UPDATE…
PUTTING 12V on the Minimosd Micro WILL FRY IT. So it is a 5V 500mA system! Mine has gone up in smoke.

    Hi @neoxio,

You DID it you just help me figure out what I did wrong! When trying to get the Vbat and GPS data to show up in my FPV goggles… In order for the OSD to work it has to be powered, meaning my battery was connected. Now I remember when I saved the UART1 settings in Cleanflight… PUF smoke. So the conclusion is… always to remember to disconnect from power source of the devices u trying to send data to the STM32. If only I knew this before hehehe. Thanks @neoxio and another thing Norbert the MinimOSD Micro has a •+5V 500mA regulator for up to +12V supply input ( this info is from where I got mine http://www.readytoflyquads.com/micro-minimosd ). So in a 3SLipo configuration you could power it up directly. This way you do not exceed the UART’s 200/500mA limitations. You can’t use a 5V poulu cause they have a 500mA max draw, and the MinimOSD draws 500mA. so you’ll be maxing out the poulu. And you’ll find the OSD not powering up most of the time. Not to forget the poulu could fry in the air, leaving you at the mercy of our beloved GPS RTH hehehe (GPS Tricopter joke).

With this being said I’m going to hook mine on the RAW output, cause I had mine on the UART1 +/-.
Remember I have 3 of there so let do a test, and I’ll post back my results. But now let me watch a few movies first, it’s lazy Saturday!!!!

Norbert what you think of these:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/10Pcs-Set-12x12x9mm-Latching-Tactile-Push-Button-Switch-Tact-SMD-PCB-2-pin-DIP-/401032093183?hash=item5d5f601dff:g:BCUAAOSw7FRWVSbm

Just push a button when you need connect to Cleanflight, you can neatly glue one of these on the frame after soldering. Just remember to isolate connections from frame contact.

And the I’m using the same 4 connections illustrated below connected to my Arduino Nano, to upload the firmware and MWOSD settings on the MiniOSD Micro.

    Hi @neoxio

I have a integrated UBloX7 mini GPS and compass. And it works like a dream. If you don’t upload firmware into a new GPS… it will not work in Cleanflight! I have had the same issues. After uploading the firmware it worked fine. Powering up on 3.3V because of the low power requirement of the I2C configuration.

    Thanks Norbet,

The 8J doesn’t support Telemetry MEH, but I like to have all that info on my FPV goggle. I’m using the Delta 8 PPM on PWM6.

So if I understand, only enable smartport on the UART line that the OSD is on?

The picture below was not intended for this discussion sorry.

    Hi @Norwinkel,

This is a question within a question. You want another GPS? Or additional to what you already have? If not I think I’m having the kind of issues that you have. I had my MininOSD Micro on UART1 but… you have to disconnect the OSD in order for Cleanfight to communicate. If you remember I’m the GPS on a Tricopter guy hehehe. On UART1 I could get the Horizon and elevation ladder to work on the OSD. But no GPS or battery info (telemetry) was displayed. No matter how I configured the OSD thru MWOSD software. Now I have my OSD on UART2 but again NO telemetry feedback or arming. OSD stays DISARMED whether ARMED or DISARMED.

Another thing… this is an idea from the past but after your question I’m thinking on replacing the SONAR “project” with a bottom camera. And a second GPS would be nice here… Or better yet, are able to use 2 cameras on a GPS? That’s it I’m ordering a second camera and a FPV switcher I already have a blank frame. Crashing is not an option for this experiment and folding capabilities are also lost. I never fold my Tricopter so… MEH.

Did you guys check this out http://ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-ublox-gps.html

I have on of those integrated MAG GPS’S too, mine didn’t work until I applied the HK_MAX7Q_setup_for_cleanflight with UBlox GPS Configurator (u-center) the MAG works fine on the I2C pins. The GPS/MAG is being fed by 3.3V pins due to my fear of blowing things up if I use 5V. But it works fine on 3.3V, 5V is max recommended voltage for these chaps.

Hope I shared some useful info, if not forget I said anything… bye.

Hi sorry for the late reply,

To be honest I had to look that one up. USB on THE GO… hmmmm my old cellphone repair days left me at the old NOKIA serial breakout cables. But I ordered this one Micro USB 5 pin Male To Mini USB 5 Pin Male Adapter Converter Data Cable. But I’m getting a OTG cable for future USB… things. BTW I’m still using NOKIA, android one that is.

A bit a added sarcasm below… but I’m still getting one. Snif snif what’s burning? O I forgot that’s the DJI MAVIC PRO burning a hole in my pocket hahahaha

Yes thanks Dave I’ll do that.

You know the Failsafe tab menu, it would be nice to have a tab like that for landing an hovering. And as always, make it an option. Those who don’t want it… they don’t enable it. For those who think the Tricoper is good as it is… you only need charged batteries. The rest of us will try to get it to our liking. I’m downloading EZ-GUI as I’m writing now. Just have to get a male to male micro to mini USB cable now.

DaveL is our new head of R&D,

This is great info Dave! But RC_CH7 and RC_CH8, I think they have to be enabled via Soft serial and connected to the RX pins CH7 and CH8 right?. Cause like I said the F3FC pin out is now evermore different than any hobby flying boards out there. That’s why we need to help each other out. Cause only ones that can help are the ones having F3FC.

Like Steve Jobs once quoted, Stay hungry…Stay foolish.

@GAntonjo you are funny “DJI Fly away” mode hahahaha I actually heard of those too.

I have a Futaba 8J, one thing I know our transmitters don’t have a middle throttle position like the RTF’s we use the whole throttle curve. Well you can use two rubber bands or adjust the throttle curve in your transmitter. Can’t we do something smarter in the software? Let’s say you arm the copter, blades start spinning but as soon as you move the stick. Throttle goes up to middle (stick position). And when you want to land you just pull the throttle twice down in order to delete the middle throttle position and use the whole curve again. I know it can be done! Lets see if @lauka can help us (me) with this one. Better yet make a MarlonF3FCfloat.hex hahaha.

    @GAntonjo thanks for your reply,

Again @David your Tricopter design is the BEST out there I LOVE it and LOVE the F3FC even more. But I hate the limitations in it’s software. I didn’t ask for hand gesture recognition, or RTH. If you remember long time ago, I asked for GPS (got it) in order for it to stay in one place when I wanted. Back then (Mini TRI V3) @David told me to wait cause the next board would have GPS capabilities, and it does. I ordered as soon as it was available, refreshing the page in order to be the FIRST. I have F3FC 000001 to say (joke) My problem with the Tricopter is staying in the air when the throttle is cut. Forget the sonar I spent all day yesterday trying everything even got some damage reversed. But in the end like @Lauka stated it’s just not implemented. Lets remember, The F3FC is a new board that is based on the SP Racing… BUT our board has connections that aren’t present on the SP Racing or vice versa. Making it very hard for a guy like me who likes to experiment. Cause when ever I have need to lookup something I have to look it up in a SP Racing tutorial… and then o our boards don’t have these connections etc. My F3FC made a puff of smoke while configuring the OSD. Didn’t even complain cause I taught what did I do now? But my connections are in order and CLEAN. Wasn’t even touching the Tri. I’ll just order a new board. And every time I order ill throw in some spare parts. I know the nature of the crashing in this hobby even I wrote about it. But a pilot job is to take off, take the plane to it’s destination and land. Staying in the air is due to physics of the aircraft and software. About cheap china OSD’s I even have a BROSD also. I have done my homework on these, I can order a $250 Eagle OSD right now. But to put in what? I rather spend that money in a new F3FC board with some parts. And have you guy’s help me with SONAR and keeping my beast in the air even after throttle is fully cut. About SYNDRONES I know the are used for a whole other purpose. I have a friend that has 3 for his areal photography business. There are even SYSNDRONES whit RED ONE cameras flying in Holland. My SYNDRONES friend is flying DJI phantoms most of the time now. Cause of that he can just take it out of the box and fly. And not thinker with arming and sometimes not wanting to arm issues etc. When I told him I have a Tricoper he said FINALY. Cause I said I was never getting a QUAD Copter. Then he asked me what brand, I told him it’s a kit. He said I knew it you like build your own stuff. And then he asked where is it from… I said from Sweden, some guy named David. He said woooooo he’s the GOD of Tricopters, I was happy and taught YESSSS I have the good stuff! Me bringing the SYNDRONES into the discussion was due to amazement how hobbyist that build their own creations that cost the more money that mine. Are simply getting a RTF and not even looking back. Well I love my Tricopter LOVE this community, cause I have been into the RC Helicopter hobby and believe me they are not EVEN as helpful as you guys.

I simply want the Tricopter to stay in the air when the throttle cut. (DUMMY MODE)

@Siclair I’m sorry I lashed out at you yesterday. I had a hard day trying to make the sonar to even register a pulse. Lets eat those fruit instead of comparing them hahahaha.

I’m still getting my Mavic PRO as soon as the hurricane goes away!!!!!! I will have two foldables, a Tri and a QUAD. When I’m done flying I can simply wave at Mavic and it will return, the Tri… I guess I can cut the throttle and see what happens. Bad joke bad joke hahahahha.

    Thank you,

That’s you opinion! And like everyone you are also entitled to have one. I talked about reliability, I did not compare them. OUR Tricoper does not have a proprietary firmware. And no I’m not a pilot, I’m a truck driver (1/14 scale). That doesn’t exclude me to have what I want. I you ever had a SYNDRONES, you know what they cost. But for me to see pilots better than me and you. Walk away from them with their expensive DSLR cameras and all. There must be something me and you don’t know. And by the way I have successfully hooked up GPS on my F3FC, thanks to many on the forum for their help. About the white smoke, again ask me first how it happened, and don’t assume I can’t fly, solder or… I don’t no what else you think I can’t do.

Now you are better in you electronics than me, please help me with my OSD question I had earlier. My Tricopter has everything I wanted it to deliver. GPS less wires and now SONAR may be with your help. You inspired me compare strawberries and pumpkins now.

    NOW I’M MAD!

Thanks @Lauka I can’t use PWM6, PPM receiver is connected there. I’m having some OSD problems here. I removed the MinimOSD Micro from UART1 to UART2… beeper is working again (constantly beeping even with battery unplugged) until TX is turned on. But I have had a problem with data showing on the OSD. Here where my problems with this board started last time. OSD is working fine, but I’m only getting 0.0V DISARMED and a battery logo. No ladder horizon or GPS info, and OSD stays UNARMEND even when ARMED. (GPS works fine and FIX is true and I can see my location on the map in Cleanflight GPS tab) What are UART setting for the MinimOSD? MSP and smartport enabled? Or one at the time? Better yet what is the Protocol for MinimOSD? Or what has to be enabled in the UART line in order to make MinimOSD work like it should?
