Has anyone tried drive more aggressive props for flying in high altitude locations? I live where it is at least 4500 feet asl, and can easily get up over 9000 if I take a drive up in the mountains. I’ve had significant gains when changing the props on my planes and I wonder if I could see similar benefits on my tri.

The one thing I found is that the gemfan 6045 ABS will fail on 4s and snap off at the hub. My last crash was due to this so I’m sticking with the HQs.

Hi Killer spud. I recently went to the mountains and went for a hike with my mini tricopter. I flew from the top of the montain (10,000 feet) and wow it flew terribly. It needed about 20% more throttle and the tale wagged like crazy. According to ecalc, 7*4.5 hq props will give almost the exact same performance at 10,000 ft as a 6*4.5 prop at 500 ft. Hopefully the next time i go the the mountains i can test out the 7 inch props and report back.

Hmm, based on that I might try a set of 7×3 props. I just want to make sure none of my wires get in the way…

I looked at ecalc and can’t make heads or tails of it, so I’ll take your word on it.
