Episode 4 of Rotor DR1 is here!

I’ve been heavily involved in the creative process of DR1 and so far it’s been exhausting, but extremely gratifying. Making a movie / web-series based on community input and feedback is incredible. There are so many talented people out there and together we can create something powerful and memorable. I’m very grateful to be apart of this.

The FPV footage in the abandoned mall is shot with the tricopter V3. It was such an awesome place to fly FPV. Such a surreal experience flying around in a huge mall with smashed glass and broken things everywhere. I’ll post my own FPV video from there as soon as I’m done with the KK2 setup video and shipping out all the backorders 😉

Thank you to everyone that has given input or feedback in any shape or form, or even just watched the episodes. It’s because of you, and for you that we make this film.

    “Audience Driven Web Series”- An Awesome concept that should be more frequently used by “Networks”.

    I’ve said it a trillion times, good things happen to good people; sum that to an exceptional community behind it and you can do anything!

    The trip has been good so far (DR1), nice debut David! Bad-ass hunter spot on…lol. Would like to see/hear some Swedish on the series…because with the right body language,facial expressions and tone of voice you could say “roses are red, violets are blue” and provoke fear/hate on the audience (that doesn’t know Swedish of course) if that were the case.

    p.s. Cant’ wait for the KK video! I’ve learned a couple of things here and there with the help of some fellow Tricopter V3 Protégés (I’m sure we all see you as our Mentor). Can’t wait to fly!

    Awesome stuff. I enjoyed the scene with the fpv flying in the mall, gave a nice flashback deja-vu to other futuristic movies. My only suggestion is that it would have looked cool to have included some terminator-like vision to some of the fpv scenes.. (HUD view, bars scanning, etc), like I did here:

    My six-year-old son and I are enjoying watching Rotor DR1 together. Your FPV sequence in the mall was a big hit!

    We’ve been flying micro-quads for a while and have just finished building the Tricopter v3 – our first ‘outdoor’ multicopter. Looking forward to the KK2 video too! Where is the best place to ask questions about it?

    We built the 3S version using NTM 28 motors. Our problem is that the CW propellor (attached using the recommended HobbyKing accessory kit) likes to unscrew itself after a couple of minutes of what we, rather optimistically, call ‘flying’.

    Any tips? Thread locker, or just more muscle-power? 😛

      PS. You have a bug in your comment profile links. The link by my name should point to /author/leon1/ (Me, Leon Matthews), but instead points to /author/Leon/ (Another Leon, Snr Rojas).

      I believe you’re using the first name field to print the links, rather than the username.

      Use locktite, Don’t crank down too hard on it. The accessory kit is made from aluminium and you can strip the threads if you go Hulk on it. Use some thread lock or get some m5 locknuts. It’s pretty uncommon for the prop to unscrew itself while flying, but if the prop touches the ground they can unscrew much easier 🙂

        Thank you for the tip. You’re right about the prop too. It didn’t come unscrewed while flying but given that it was our first flight we did ‘touch the ground’ quite a lot! 😉

    Fantastic project and well done with the acting too, I heard you had a hard time keeping a straight face, not surprised by that at all 😉
    It’s been fun seeing it develop and what kinda things Chad & co. come up with regarding the drones.

    Looking forward to building my V3 too ^^

    Any time line on the KK2 programming video? Really interested to see your process for tuning it. Your videos are always top-notch and you do very well at bringing concepts down to the novice so that we can follow what you are saying without having to go and research what you are talking about all the time. (Most people use terms and concepts that are beyond the novice meaning i have to pause one video and go find another to explain what the heck the first vide is talking about…)

    Thanks for all you do! as soon as the V3 is back in stock I’m ordering one.

      Tomorrow 🙂 Not sure if it’s going to help you that much though. It’s not terrible in-depth on the tuning, but their might be some useful info in there for you, i hope 🙂

    The Dronehunter definitely needs its own spinoff series 🙂 Too many questions are unanswered! 🙂 Why does the dronehunter shoot down drones and make them explode?!? He used to dedicate his life to build them? Why does he discard the awesome EMP gun? Ressources must be limited, is he not going to repair it? Has he lost the will to hunt drones? Is he going back to building drones? I would like that twist 😀
